Guitar Practice (Part 2) : Make perfect practice does not?

by Kathy Unruh

You've probably heard the expression "practice makes perfect" and it seems

true enough, but is it really? We all know the importance of practicing a

new skill in order to be effective. This is particularly true when playing

the guitar or other musical instrument for that matter.

But for practicing incorrectly can actually be detrimental to your

progress. How do you say? Why you continue to reinforce what we practice.

So if you always practice doing something wrong, you end up with an

incorrect result.

For example, if the practice of holding hands in a bad position, he will

become a habit that will be difficult to correct. Malposition of a right or

left hand during practice the guitar can create tensions, which makes

certain techniques more difficult to perform. Hand position improperly may

also increase the possibility of developing lesions are quite common for

musicians, such as carpal tunnel syndrome. This is a very debilitating

wrist injury that can take your guitar playing to a full stop. When you

practice, using a "cable" by hand instead of a "flat" rather than helping

to promote good posture relaxed.

Another problem for some students regarding the practice, the guitar is the

rhythm. The pace is so fundamental to all aspects of music that I really

can not stress its importance enough. If you can read music is not the

problem. But you absolutely must try to learn to count beats in a given

measure of music to play the part correctly. If you can not keep time, no

one will really be able to say what you play anyway. It will be very

difficult for you to play in groups or with other musicians who just want

to "jam".

Speed is a major practical obstacles that I see in my students. When speed

is king, the pace and timing are often sacrificed. It is absolutely

necessary to slow to correctly interpret the time, especially if it is a

guide lick or strumming pattern.

The speed also affects the joints, which simply means "to pronounce

distinctly. What good if you can play something real fast, but it's not

wrong, who will be affected by this? Instead, take your time and play each

tone to clear a speed that is comfortable for you.

Try using a metronome or drum machine to set a time. Then came the practice

of "short", one section at a time. Continue to increase the speed until you

can play the whole lick, riff or measure, etc., at their own pace. But do

not sacrifice the hand position, rhythm and articulation in the process.

These three things that should be the priority, in practice the guitar.

After they have been established, work on speed or tempo of the music.

Knowing what is the position of the fingers to use when playing notes on

the keyboard is also important. If you use a fortuitous or accidental,

you'll probably become confused and disoriented, as you start to move. I

tell my students that the new guitar is "upside down and backwards to give

them an idea of what they are facing when it comes to learning the notes on

the keyboard. This means that the guitar is played both horizontally

vertically, in contrast with the piano is a linear. learning to read notes

on the guitar, you need to flip upside down to fit a pattern handle. Down

is up and up is down by referring to management and as it refers to 'the

height of each string.

To summarize:

1. Start slowly
2. Develop a relaxed "cava" hand position
4. Learning to interpret the rhythm (time)
5. Focus on articulation (clarity)
6. Gradually increase the speed (time)

So it is true that "practice makes perfect" if you learn to develop a

"perfect" practice routine. To do this, you will need to work to establish

priorities and develop habits of good practice. Know that we have time to

become a good musician, so do not rush the process, however, embrace and

enjoy. If you keep these ideas in mind, you should see an improvement, the

continued growth of your overall game in a relatively short time. You will

also discover that when you develop good habits, you automatically develop

good technique. After establishing a good technique, playing the guitar

seems a lot easier and make the whole long-term value.
