Find your fans

The performers, all jumping the opportunity to be front, center stage and

do what we do best. Unfortunately, if you do not choose your site

correctly, you do not do much to help your cause. Before putting the six

string in your back and head for opening night next micro, there are some

things to consider.

The first thing to understand is the composition of the public are

important. If you go to the local nursing home for playing punk rock, you'd

made a grave mistake. A) No account is taken of what the public wants, B)

You're not performing to your target and C) Do not think of your

merchandising.

Instead of having committed the largest crowd, the organization of concerts

that are appropriate to the style of the group and gender. Create shows in

places where your target audience can be found and be sure to choose your

target audience is a group that has the money needed to remember. I know

that your target audience and what they want to hear, it is possible for

you to find your fans in their environment and receive a profit for the

time to do so.

Leave the other bands in town to continue to play the open mic night for

local musicians hang out. These shows little 'talent are simply not

profitable or a good place to find new fans. Why? The event is usually an

audience of musicians waiting for their chance to arise. They are not there

to buy CDs. They are there to listen to their songs for the audience that

we all aspire. Instead of wasting time to practice before an audience of

fellow musicians, spend time learning that the target audience and finding

your fans

New Performance Royalties?

While performance fees have existed in theory for many years, there has

been a part of those charges has been very difficult to see any efficiency

and a new segment of these accusations fair use of copyright did not exist

Formulating Your Best Music Promotion Plan

Many people who subscribe to my Buzz Factor e-zine, read my books and

attend workshops tell me they move ounces brainstorming mode, self-

promotion as ideas faster than Billy Joel behind the wheel of a Mazarotti.

My first advice regarding this state of mind is fantastic

Buy a book or newspaper and capture those thoughts into writing them. Do

not expect to remember everything later. This rarely works. Grab ideas

while they are hot.

If you're driving when inspiration, gently pull your thoughts and scribbles

on a receipt for gas, a bag of fast food, or whatever is handy. If you're

in a bar or restaurant, use a towel. If you're in the shower ... Well, be

creative and find a way to record those great ideas.

So many ideas, So Little Time

Once you have a master list of unexceptional, career boosting concepts,

things do not become easier. Now, you probably feel as if you have so many

options, you do not know where to start. Most people get the music so

distracted so they do nothing. Or they do a little of everything at once,

and spread themselves too thin, with nothing to show for their hard work.

Well, I believe in keeping things simple. Do not overwhelm yourself. To

start, before jumping into any new plans to tail, there are two basic

things you must do every week if not every day, no matter what you may be

working on:

1) To write, record and perform great music. It is no secret. The ideas

of promoting the most creative of the world will do nothing to help the

poor music. So work on your music-making craft constantly. All it takes is

a killer song to light a fire that will support a full career.

2) The second thing you must do almost every day is to take steps to

connect with and attract more fans. Do not get distracted with technical

details and connections to industry and stuff that does nothing. Keeping a

constant target of fans.

Creating Your Plan Music

Now, what about the specific ideas you have great exposure to get the CD

sales, etc..? Take a timetable covering the next 12 months, and start

writing your ideas and the best time of year when they would be better.

Think this through and move the items on the calendar until you have one or

two main ideas listed for each month. Doing this will give you a roadmap to

promote so you know the best ways to spend your time and energy each month.

Your efforts will be more targeted in this way and more likely to generate

results.

What's Wrong with 'American Idol'?

misconceptions about what it takes to succeed as a musical artist today.

This is one of television's most popular in recent years, drawing tens of

millions of viewers each week. Even I admit, American Idol is fun to watch.

The fair offers all the elements of good entertainment pop culture:

passion, emotion, the thrill of victory, agony of defeat, dreams attained

and lost ...

So what's wrong with American Idol?

Considering that it is localized in reality "TV category, the show did a

great disservice to aspiring musicians (and public) perception by

distorting the way the music industry really works. Send a message obsolete

"addiction" to split the industry. The more realistic "independence" that

artists have today to control their own careers.

The Talent Myth Discovery

For example, the program lets you believe there are hundreds of people like

Simon, Paula and Randy is looking for raw talent they can mold into the

people whose job it is to sign and nurture new artists - but as major

labels in place, staff cut, and get nervous about the bottom line They have

Moreover, the American Idol auditions, in particular, create the illusion

that most aspiring musicians lack talent and are delusional, struggling and

starving. In reality, there are thousands of talented artists from across

the country who do a lot of money, hundreds of devoted fans, and gradually

we build careers.

Here's just one example of this modern reality: Over the past seven years,

the Web site CD Baby has sold over 12 million CDs (1.3 million units) by

independent, unsigned acts. A huge amount of quality music is produced and

sold outside of the ordinary.

The Danger of Waiting for Your Big Break "

One of the biggest myths propels American Idol is that you need the

approval of the Guardians industry to "do" in music. Sorry, you do not need

permission to Simon or someone else to be worthy of a career in music. If

you expect someone to give you the green light to create and play music,

you'll wait longer.

Too many musicians say they need to be "discovered" or given a break "big"

exceptions, not the rule. Only one in 30 signed acts reach levels high

enough to justify the sales of a second CD release - which means nearly 97%

of artists with recording contracts fail. However, most musicians are still

obsessed with "industry" approval and think they need to be a great label.

The reality of the Ultimate''

The smartest musicians understand that building an independent career, is

the best approach. They promote, book their own shows, produce and sell

their own CDs, and establish direct relationships with fans. In so doing,

they learn the ropes and develop slowly, skills and business acumen

necessary to achieve higher levels of success.

It is misguided for artists think they need massive exposure and approval

of music industry honchos a la American Idol to succeed. This knee jerk

reasoning is based on decades-old business model is its last gasp

desperate. It's a new day. Now it's all about self-empowerment. The

musicians must claim their personal power, take their careers into their

own hands, relentlessly promote themselves and create their own lucky

breaks.

So enjoy American Idol for the unreality "that is entertainment. But the

pursuit of your dreams with the understanding that you have complete

control of your musical aspirations and development.

The Power of Personality

When you promote yourself or by e-mail with the words you use on your

website, you can choose. You can be straight-forward and matter-of-fact

(also known as bland and boring). Or you can communicate with brio.

Example: My friend Gregg Hopkins plays in a band called The Melroy. He

could have sent a run-of-the-mill e-mail to promote a recent show,

including the name of the club rudimentary, address, phone number, etc..

Instead, he sent this:

our Little Rock and Roll fandango. The food is delicious adult beverages

are cool and refreshing, the music is swinging, and you'll fit right in

Marketing Lessons From an 8-Year-Old Girl

One morning not long ago, when my daughter was 8, I was driving her to

school when she asked me to cue up a very familiar song on the CD player.

If you have kids, you know that children often love Repeated exposure to

stuff they like. They'll contently watch a favorite movie over and over

again, driving the adults in the house batty from the repetition.

Well, one of her favorite songs is "Accidentally in Love" by Counting

Crows. I like to think she enjoys it so much because i recently played it

at a show she attended. But the truth more likely has something to do with

the Shrek 2 soundtrack.

Anyway, that morning we were on our second spin of "So she said, 'What's

the problem, baby' ..." When I finally asked her, "Why do you like this

song so much?"

Her answer: "I do not know. It just puts me in a good mood."

The Light Bulb Goes Off

Wow. That might sound like a simplistic answer, but when you think about

it, is not that at the core of enjoyng any type of music, at any stage of

life? You enjoy your favorite music Because it makes you feel good.

The key words there are * and * feel * good *. Generally speaking, music

makes the person enjoying it feel good - or better about themselves than

they might have before hearing it.

There are exceptions: Sometimes people listen to particular types of music

when they are sad or angry or not feeling "good." In these instances,

people use music to match their moods - to cradle and support them in

whatever state they happen to be in. But, regardless of the mood, people

always use music to "feel," Whether it's good or otherwise.

But I contend that most of the time people turn to music to feel better

about themselves - to, as my daughter says, put themselves in a good mood.

Feeling Great About Feeling Good

Music fans might say they love an act Because of the vocalist's skills or

the guitar player's chops or the groove laid down by the bass player. But

those things are just the means that lead to the ultimate fan payoff:

Feeling good.

So ... How does your music make your fans feel? In what way do you elevated

their mood to "good" - or, better yet, great? The answers to those

questions can be different for every artist. But asking them and pondering

the answers will help you understand the true relationship you have with

your fans.

Bottom line: Putting more people in a "good mood" will help your music

career more than just about any marketing tactic you could ever conceive.

Outrageous Music Marketing Ideas

I'm not sure exactly what triggered it, but my mind recently started popping with creative, off-the-wall ways to promote your music. So I jotted down some notes and am sharing them with you in this article.

I'll let you Determine Whether these are truly "outrageous" ideas. But one thing is for sure: They certainly are not the traditional things that most musicians think about when they do marketing.

Ready? Here we go ...

Outrageous Music Marketing Idea # 1
Turn Yourself Into a Happy Meal

I definitely advocate that indie musicians * not * try to emulate the same tactics as the major labels. However, there are times when you can take one of their ideas (or an idea from a related entertainment industry) and give it a small-scale spin.

You know how the major film studios promote their new animated features by tying into fast food chain kid meals, such as the McDonald's Happy Meal. Most likely, you will not be Able to land a nationwide Happy Meal deal. But You Might Be Able to do something cool with a local deli or restaurant.

I know a couple of radio disc jockeys in my town who have special meals or sandwiches named after them at certain eateries. Why could not you do that? Especially if you perform regularly at a particular coffee shop, bar or restaurant.

For example, if your band is called Sweet Potato Sunrise, approach a manager with the idea of offering a Sweet Potato Sunrise omelette, or a Sweet Potato Sunrise milk, or a Sweet Potato Sunrise daiquiri?

You get the idea. The special name would get you exposure at the establishment whenever it's open (hopefully, you're item will be listed on the menu). Plus, you can use the unique promotional angle to get mentions in the local press.

Outrageous Music Marketing Idea # 2
Become an Instant Cult Classic

The success of the quirky movie Napoleon Dynamite has me thinking. The movie itself is still growing on me, but I'm fascinated by the buzz it has among people who really connect with it. Most of my friends who rave about it have seen it numerous times and claim that the more they see it, the more they appreciate and enjoy it.

What a nice position for a filmmaker to be in. Admittedly, a lot of people do not like the movie and its flat characters at all. But those who do appreciate the film like it a lot - and preach about it to their friends, memorize lines, to Encourage theaters have midnight Showings, etc.

How can you tap into that? It's hard to manufacture cult status, but here's an idea: What if your music CD came with an accompanying trivia game? And what if The Game tied directly into the theme, style and lyrics of your music? The Game instructions could be included in the CD sleeve or delivered separately to everyone who bought one. Or, to make a greater impact with the trivia game idea, you could package the CD in a DVD case or even a small retail box.

To make this work, you'd have to come up with a cool, interactive game idea and have a CD filled with interesting, funny or insightful lyrics and music. But if you can get people examining the nuances of your material and sharing notes with other people who are Memorizing your stuff, you might have some powerful buzz going for you.

Lead Guitar Tips | Guitar Tips to improve the speed of collection!

Trying to learn the tricks for guitar? This section provides specific information on how to improve your speed picking on the guitar!

Do not waste time here, OK? The first thing to remember is to pick up and down, just as some young people in the beginning are quite likely to do. What I mean is to go up down up down, or vice versa. Long ago, a friend of mine was keen to improve its collection rate, so he developed a model of small-scale practice that does not require too much movement of his left hand.

Here the model used, you can start at any position on the handle. We begin this fifth button. I'll give you the channel number, then press the keys.

* 6th string (thickest one) - Section 5, 7 and 8
* 5th string - Fret 5, 6 and 7
* String of 4 - Fret 5, 6 and 7
* 3 rope - Fret 5, 6 and 7
* 2nd rope - Box 5, 7 and 8
String * 1 - Box 5, 7 and 8

Start slowly and gradually speed it using alternate picking and back, so when it comes to section 8 on the rope and then go down also works very well. It 'important to remember that collection picks up speed with the wrist, rather than keep their fingers in both directions.

If you have your song writing? If you're a songwriter, sooner or later you'll probably get your questions about copyright. Since I have already gone this route before, you may be able to benefit from my experiences. Although I am not an expert in the field, I think I have valuable information to share with you.

Having online for some time, I noticed there seems to be some confusion about the purpose of legal deposit. A fairly common question among people who attend the forum songwriting is "How do I copyright my song?" That, of course, is quite understandable.

Imagine what it would be like having one of our stolen pieces, only to find that then increased by several hundreds of thousands of dollars for a band you've never heard of. You would think that would be able to console himself with the idea that this proves that you can write a beautiful song, but I doubt it.

More than likely, you have to be very troubled by this affair, and wants to take legal action. The sad thing is that many people do not prosecute because they lack the money to hire a lawyer. The preparation of any type of guitar performance can be a bit 'scared at first, but if you are well prepared, you will find the experience much easier to manage. If you're playing with a group or alone are a seasoned artist, or a rookie, there are several things you can do to make the most of your performance. First, we know that you're not the first block of nervousness forever to play your guitar in public. This is a common experience among musicians, and being a bit 'nervous can even work in your favor.

There is always a mysterious struggle that goes on inside me when I'm about to give a performance. I think it's anything like the Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde phenomenon. Two playful items for my eyes, the good and bad. Mr. Hyde told me that I must be out of my mind. What makes me think they are good enough to stand on a stage and playing guitar in front of an audience? What I think anyway? On the other hand, Dr. Jekyl tells me that I have worked hard practicing my guitar and learn the material well. It will be nice to share what I had with others so they can benefit too hot. Be brave, live life and go!

Because I am basically a shy person, it would be much easier for me not to play the guitar in public. But there is a certain momentum, almost a need I have to express myself through music, especially with regard to carry my equipment. Yes, there is some risk, is known to be vulnerable. If you find that you are constantly making errors in a particular song, give you more time to shoot it down first public performance.

4. Practice playing with distractions. You will be surprised how this can be beneficial. I remember reading in an outdoor concert once where the group was to follow mine was overheating right behind us! Tamborine and everything. A member of the group actually started asking me about my guitar performance and wanted to know how I learned to play like that! It 'was very strange, but all I could do was ignore it. Although I am a guitarist and teacher, she seems to have taken a bit 'away from my normal routine. There was a time that I train at least two hours a day, and sometimes much, much more.

It 'hard to understand the reason for this gradual change in behavior. I could blame the fact that I have nerve damage in my elbow that makes my left arm and hand to feel the pain every time I play guitar today. Or maybe it's because the work I have so much to do on my site, write blogs, teaches guitar and taking care of other responsibilities that is just hard to find the time.

As a guitarist there is really no excuse. Slow down on my guitar practice is why it was taken by surprise, not long ago when I received a request to play for a local radio program. The call came one evening when I was in the midst of giving guitar lessons. Normally I would not even answer the phone during this period, but for some reason I did. E 'was the producer of the radio. They told me he had my name another musician, I know. Had learned that I was a guitarist and asked me if I would be willing to play a little 'Spanish' guitar for a show that would air the next day. But as a musician, you can also face the music and realize that sooner or later someone will ask you to play something for them. It can be for one person knows, or maybe about 100 people who do not know. Of course you can almost guarantee that will never happen.

If you're a singer then you've probably experienced the wonderful satisfaction that comes when you finally finish a song. You may feel as if you've done something very interesting, something meaningful. At the same time, the result is often a desire, almost a necessity to share the song you wrote with others. That is, until you realize there is a certain degree of risk if you do. And if you do not like? Are you willing to be vulnerable and take the risk?

When you put your heart and soul into a song it becomes very important to you. The last thing you want for your song to be considered negligible. After all, it might be revealed some very personal aspects of your life, things that have hurt, or that have changed.

As a composer, you probably discovered that writing is a way to release the repressed emotions inside you. There is a freedom that comes from singing the words that will probably never be able to speak. What joy! What liberation! Sometimes you want to sing from the rooftops for the whole world to hear! But I ask again, what if you do not like?

Being a songwriter is not easy. It requires a willingness to be vulnerable. It requires a willingness to be misunderstood and derided. It requires a willingness to be exposed for others to criticize and judge. Are you willing to do? Is it worth it?

They want a chance to win a gold medal for their country. They want the chance to show the world are the best.
