Although I am a guitarist and teacher, she seems to have taken a bit 'away from my normal routine. There was a time that I train at least two hours a day, and sometimes much, much more.
It 'hard to understand the reason for this gradual change in behavior. I could blame the fact that I have nerve damage in my elbow that makes my left arm and hand to feel the pain every time I play guitar today. Or maybe it's because the work I have so much to do on my site, write blogs, teaches guitar and taking care of other responsibilities that is just hard to find the time.
As a guitarist there is really no excuse. Slow down on my guitar practice is why it was taken by surprise, not long ago when I received a request to play for a local radio program. The call came one evening when I was in the midst of giving guitar lessons. Normally I would not even answer the phone during this period, but for some reason I did. E 'was the producer of the radio. They told me he had my name another musician, I know. Had learned that I was a guitarist and asked me if I would be willing to play a little 'Spanish' guitar for a show that would air the next day. He said it was not something special and it took about 30 seconds of music.
Well, my student was in the music room waiting for me, so I told him I remember him. After class is over, I began to rationalize because I could not play guitar for any radio of this man. After all, he did not really notice me enough and I ", the guitarist, was simply not prepared. I do not even know what kind of Spanish music, he had in mind or if I have submitted my Spanish music. He probably wanted the music flamenco anyway, and I have not played this for some time. Also, my arm was bothering me a lot and ...
When my husband was home, I told the call. He thought that I had. I have accepted, at least, to see if I could find music that might be appropriate for the show. We went into the hall of music together and started leafing through my books. After several minutes, I finally found something that I "used to know."
Put the sheet music stand of the music, I reluctantly pulled my guitar and started Plunk in the material. After a short period of time, the pieces began to come together and it sounds very interesting. We decided this time that I put together. Exactly 30 seconds!
Well, I called the producer back and decided to let him know what I had to offer. I told him I thought it would be better for him to take the final decision if I was the guitarist wanted to use her show or not. The next day he saved me in one take! It 'was a great relief.
I suppose that many things can be learned from this experience. Let me share some of my thoughts with you as a guitarist to another.
If ever in a situation like this:
* Do not be too quick to say no to a request.
* Even if you're not well prepared, you could have the material to draw from all this is familiar enough to cool in a pinch.
* Respond to a request last minute, can be a measure of professionalism.
* Be willing to help others is a way to create good public relations and could lead to other opportunities in the future.
* Lying beyond what we thought was possible, it is a way of knowing that you are more and more as a musician.
* Life is like a song, so we try to set to music!
