For more information, visit the benefit Bend Haiti: "A group of local musicians, in collaboration with Bend-based humanitarian organization World Relief Announces The Next Bend In Haiti Benefit Concert March 19, 2010. Doors to the historic district of Bend's Tower Theater is open at 6 for an evening of appetizers and live music that desperately needed assistance to millions of Haitians continue to suffer the devastating 7.1 earthquake. One hundred percent of the funds raised from the concert will go to international relief agency Development, World Relief to provide ready to eat food, drinking water and other basic products.
The need is enormous. After the earthquake affected 12 January, the government officials in Haiti have estimated more than 210,000 dead and 1 million homeless (figures of the 2004 tsunami). With more than 250,000 homes destroyed and about 14 billion dollars in structural damage, the effort to rebuild Haiti should last at least ten years. With so much life in the streets with inadequate sanitation, poor access to food, water, shelter and health care the risk of infectious diseases is staggering. For Haiti, already the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere, the greatest need is a long term support. "
